A brighter future is what we hope for

Mission statement

Empowering displaced families on their journey to independence.

Dakota Woodlands is the only shelter for families experiencing homelessness in Dakota County.  Many displaced families seek shelter at Dakota Woodlands hoping to secure independence through a person-centered care partnership and supportive services that lead to affordable housing.

What does Dakota Woodlands do for homeless families that are transitioning out of homelessness?
  • Client Case Advocates are ready to help families upon their arrival at Dakota Woodlands and continue to be supportive throughout their journey to a stable future.
  • Assist families with removing barriers that prevent them from moving into affordable housing.
  • Connect families with services that help sustain independence after leaving the Shelter.
  • Provide families with social opportunities, transportation, arrange for meetings, medical appointments, social services, and remind clients to take medications that are self-administered.
  • Specialized training offerings to help families build confidence in life skills that help maintain stability and independence.
    • Financial literacy
    • Personalized employment development
    • Sustaining housing
    • Parenting skills
    • Computer proficiency
    • Personal wellness
  • Families that participate in the Dakota Woodlands program are welcome to stay at the Shelter as long as they need to.  Our Client Case Advocates work in unison with our families, helping them to reach their goals of having a safe home to move into, economic stability, healthcare, and family well-being.
