service projects
We are so grateful for the wonderful talent and generosity that is coming from the Eagle Scouts of America!
Leaders of Tomorrow
Many organizations have showed their support to Dakota Woodlands by doing service projects. To name a few; Girl Scouts of America, students attending universities, and other entities in the community. The latest service project was performed by an Eagle Scout. Throughout the years, Boy Scouts from our community have selected Dakota Woodlands for their Eagle Scout service projects. The Eagle Scout Service Project, or more simply the Eagle Project, is the opportunity for a Boy Scout, in the Boy Scout of America (BSA) to demonstrate leadership of others while performing a project for the benefit of his community. This is the culmination of the Scout's leadership training, and it requires a significant effort on his part. The project must benefit an organization other than the BSA, but it cannot be performed for an individual or a business or be commercial in nature. It is a requirement in order for Boy Scouts to attain the Eagle Scout Rank. Paul Chellsen, Scoutmaster of Troop 9293 of Apple Valley has served as an advisor for a number of Boy Scouts working on their Eagle Scout Service Projects. In the fall of 2016, Mr. Chellsen introduced Life Scout Corey Christian, from Troop 9293 to the Dakota Woodlands. There were several projects available but one jumped out at Corey right away. It was by no means the easiest but Corey felt that upgrading the front entrance to the facility would make it more welcoming for those who arrive and that make a difference for the residents. It was a tremendous undertaking, with nearly 300 volunteer hours required to complete, but when he was done it was truly impressive! The Woodlands’ Project completed Corey’s Requirements for the highest award in Scouting The Eagle Scout.
Congratulations to Troop 9293’s latest Eagle Scout Corey Christian! Thank you, Corey!

"Dakota Woodlands was at the top of my list for possible Eagle projects. I couldn't be more humbled to do something for such a good-hearted organization. Dakota Woodlands exhibits something you don't hear very often today; ' That the life of a person consists not in seeing visions and in dreaming dreams, but in active charity and willing service'. I saw this in them and wanted to do my project for no one else. I am extremely grateful to have done something for a cause such as the Woodlands." Christian stated.
A sincere "thank you" to all Scouts that have helped Dakota Woodlands over the years!
